SRPS Railtours in 2023

Linlithgow to Inverness on 26 March 2023
This ten-coach train was double-headed by West Coast Railways 37 676 Loch Rannoch and SRPS-owned 37 403 Isle of Mull. The journey was via the Forth and Tay Bridges and along the coast to Aberdeen, then through Inverurie, Keith, Elgin, Forres and Nairn. Until Aberdeen the weather was fine and sunny with spectacular coastal views. Later in the journey there were sleet and snow showers and arrival at Inverness was about ten minutes ahead of schedule. Unfortunately while shunting in the stabling sidings 37 676 derailed. The coaches then had to be taken out of the loop two at a time which resulted in a significant delay. ScotRail and Network Rail staff were very helpful and arranged for passengers to use ScotRail services if they preferred not to wait for our train. Eventually the train left Inverness about two hours late with just 37 403 hauling. The stops at Dundee and Cupar were omitted with passengers for these trains being provided with taxis from Perth. This meant that reversals and run-rounds at Perth and Dundee were avoided saving about an hour on the return journey.
