Making it to Manuel – the final push!
£100,000 needed to deliver first passenger services in 2008 season
The generosity and hard work of Society members, volunteers and friends enabled the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway to extend from Birkhill to the main line at Manuel as long ago as 1990. Since then the link has been of great benefit, in regular use for railtours, visiting locomotives and track machines.
It’s a truly exciting route, from the quiet woods of Birkhill, over the magnificent Avon viaduct and on up through open countryside - but our passengers have yet to enjoy the extra mile and a half of line.
From 2008 all that should change, and passenger operation will at last be possible. It won’t be easy; we will need to have finished upgrading the track, modified layout and replaced points at Manuel and Birkhill, removed the hump near Todd’s Mill and repaired two underbridges. We will also need to have raised £100,000 to pay for the works - and this means that once more we will have to call on your generosity. All the preparatory work that has been done over the last two years has put the goal of running services through to Manuel within our grasp. Now is your chance to help make this happen: please print, complete and return this donation form.
