Special Day Rail Excursion to
over the Highland Railway to

Steam-hauled by A1 Class 60163 Tornado

Saturday 4th September 2021

River Ness at Inverness
This steam special will travel across the Forth Bridge and over one of Britain's most scenic railway routes, the Highland Line from Perth to Inverness. The route passes through Dunkeld, Pitlochry, the Pass of Killiecrankie, Blair Atholl and over Drumochter Summit, the highest point on the British railway network.
  • You may choose to leave the train at Aviemore and take a trip on the Strathspey Railway through Boat of Garten to Broomhill, the station which featured as Glenbogle in the BBC TV series Monarch of the Glen.
  • Alternatively stay on the train over Slochd Summit and past Culloden to Inverness, capital of the Highlands.

A1 Class 60163 Tornado will be hauling this special train. 60163 was built in Darlington and completed in 2008, the first main-line steam locomotive built in Great Britain since 1961. The locomotive was financed by the volunteer fundraising of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and was named by HRH The Prince of Wales at York station in 2009.
