Special Day Rail Excursion to
Steam-hauled northbound by A1 Class 60163 Tornado
over the Settle & Carlisle Railway

This special train is diesel-hauled from Linlithgow and after calling at Edinburgh heads south along the East Coast Main Line through Berwick-upon-Tweed, Newcastle and Durham to York.
After a short break in York, A1 Class No. 60163 Tornado will take over for the return journey via Leeds and along Airedale through Skipton and over the spectacular Settle & Carlisle Railway to Carlisle, then along the West Coast Main Line over Beattock Summit.
60163 was built in Darlington and completed in 2008, the first main-line steam locomotive built in Great Britain since 1961. The locomotive was financed by the volunteer fundraising of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and was named by HRH The Prince of Wales at York station in 2009.
