Steam Special over the Settle & Carlisle Railway to
Steam-hauled southbound by A1 Class 60163 Tornado

This steam special starts from Linlithgow, calls at Edinburgh then heads south to Carstairs and along the West Coast Main Line to Carlisle. The train then takes the scenic Settle & Carlisle Railway and runs along Airedale through Skipton and Leeds to York.
Passengers should have a few hours spend the afternoon exploring the ancient walled city which has many attractions including the Minster, Jorvik Viking Centre, National Railway Museum, The Castle Museum and The Shambles, a medieval shopping street.
A1 Class No. 60163 Tornado will haul the train southbound over Beattock Summit and the Settle & Carlisle Railway. 60163 was built in Darlington and completed in 2008, the first main-line steam locomotive built in Great Britain since 1961. The locomotive was financed by the volunteer fundraising of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and was named by HRH The Prince of Wales at York station in 2009.
